Hasan Hüseyin Yıldırım graduated from Hacettepe University School of Health Administration with the highest GPA in 1996. In the same year, he started his academic life as a research assistant at the School of Health Administration. Dr. Yildirim, who obtained his MSc and PhD degrees from Health Institutions Management Programme of Institute of Health Sciences at Hacettepe University, worked as a visiting research associate at LSE Health, London School of Economics and Political Sciences with the Chevening Scholarship (2005-2006). During the course of the visit, Dr. Yıldırım studied mostly on the fields of health policies, health systems, health economics, health financing and effects of EU health policies on the Turkish health policies and system.
Dr. Yıldırım worked as a faculty member on health policies in the Department of Health Management at the Hacettepe University until July 2017. Then, Dr. Yıldırım appointed as the director of the TÜSEB Turkish Institute for Health Policies (TÜSPE) in 2017 and currently he is also professor of health policies in the Department of Health Management at the University of Health Sciences (Ankara).
Dr. Yıldırım has previously provided scientific, logistical and technical support to the Türkiye Presidency Health and Food Policies Council (2018-2022), also worked as TÜSEB Acting Secretary General (2020-2021), TÜSEB Board Member (2019-2020), TÜSEB Turkey Traditional and Complementary Medicine Institute Deputy President (2017-2020), vice head of Department of Health Management at Hacettepe University (2012-2013), as the founder and director of ABSAM Health Research Centre (2013-2017), as an executive board member of European Health Management Association (EHMA, Belgium) (2015-2016), as the consultant of Turkish Health Institutions Council of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) (2015-2017), an advisory board member at International Healthcare Research Center (USA) (2013-2016) and as the consultant of Health and Social Service Workers’ Union (Sağlık-Sen) (2008-2015). In addition Dr. Yıldırım worked as the expert on issues about violence against health workers within the national assembly of Turkey (TBMM) (2012-2013).
Dr. Yıldırım has been taking part in many national and international projects and organizations and continues to do so. Some of these can be noted as; WHO EVIPNet Europe network (2019-ongoing), European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies Health Systems in Action Insights (2022), Organisation of Turkic States’ Health Systems and Policies Project (2022-ongoing), G20 Global Innovation Hub for Improving Value in Health Steering Committee (2020-2025), the Health PROMeTHEUS: Health Professional Mobility in European Union Study (2009-2012) project funded within the scope of European Union 7th Framework Programme, and the Sağlık-Sen Turkey Health Literacy Survey (2014).
Dr. Yıldırım, who has over 250 books, book chapters, articles, reports, analyses and presentations at the national and international level, is among the authors of the section titled “Public Policy: Theory and Practice” (2013, editors: Yıldız M and Sobacı MZ). The book received the Notable Copyright Award from the Turkish Academy of Sciences’ (TÜBA) Scientific Copyright and Translation Award 2014 (TEÇEP). Additionally, he is the recipient of the Hacettepe Student Science Encouragement Award, the İhsan Doğramacı Outstanding Achievement Award, the SİODER Leading Public Manager of the Year Award, and the By Protocol Magazine Silver Career Bureaucrat of the Year Award.
As an expert in health policies, Dr. Yıldırım’s studies focus on policy, economics and management dimensions of health and health services.
Yıldırım has focused his recent researches on Islamic and Medical studies in general and Tıbb-ı Nebevi studies in particular.
