Who is?
Hasan Hüseyin Yıldırım graduated from Hacettepe University School of Health Administration with the highest GPA in 1996. He began his academic career as a research assistant at the School of Health Administration in 1996. Dr. Yıldırım received his MSc and doctoral PhD degrees from the Health Management Programme of Institute of Health Sciences at Hacettepe University. He also worked as a Visiting Research Associate at the LSE Health (London) as a British Council Chevening Scholar (2005-2006). During the course of the visit, Dr. Yıldırım studied mostly on the fields of health policies, health systems, health economics, health financing and effects of EU health policies on the Turkish health policies and system. Dr. Yıldırım had worked as a faculty member on health policies at Hacettepe University Department of Health Management until July 2017.
Dr. Yıldırım, who is currently a professor at the Health Sciences University Gülhane Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Health Management (Ankara), has previously served as the Founding Director of TÜSEB Türkiye Health Policy Institute (TÜSPE) (2017-2023), provided scientific, logistical and technical support to the Presidency Health and Food Policies Board (2018-2022), Acting Secretary General of TUSEB (2020-2021), Member of the Board of Directors of TUSEB (2019-2020), Acting Director of TUSEB Turkey Traditional and Complementary Medicine Institute ( 2017-2020), Hacettepe University Health Management Department Vice President (2012-2013), founder and director of the EU Health Research Center (ABSAM) located in Hacettepe Teknokent (2013-2017), Board of Directors of the European Health Management Association (EHMA, 2015-2016), TOBB Turkey Healthcare Institutions Assembly Consultancy (2015-2017), Consultant at Health and Social Service Workers’ Union (Sağlık-Sen, 2008-2015) and as a commission expert in the Parliamentary Research Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) (2012-2013).
Yıldırım has participated in numerous national and international projects and initiatives, and continues to do so. Some of these include the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies Data Provision on the Organization, Financing, and Delivery of Rehabilitation Care in Turkey (2024), the WHO EVIPNet Europe Network (2019-2023), the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies Health Systems in Action Insights (2022), the Organization of Turkic States’ “Turkic World 2040 Vision: Integrative Partnership Project” (Turkish Experience in Health System and Policies Report 2022), membership in the G20 Global Innovation Hub for Improving Value in Health Steering Committee (2020-2023), the Turkish Representative of the “Health PROMeTHEUS: Health Professional Mobility in European Union Study” (2009-2012) Project funded under the European Union’s 7th Framework Programme, and the Sağlık-Sen Turkey Health Literacy Survey (2014).
Yıldırım has authored numerous books (for books in English: https://www.healthpolicybooks.com/, for books in Turkish: www.absamyayinlari.com), book chapters, articles, reports, analyses, and presentations at national and international levels. He co-authored a chapter on “Public Policy: Theory and Practice” (2013, edited by Yıldız M. and Sobacı M.Z.), which received the Notable Copyrighted Work Award from the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) in 2014. He is also the recipient of the Hacettepe Student Science Encouragement Award, the İhsan Doğramacı Outstanding Achievement Award, the Sioder Leading Public Administrator of the Year Award, and the By Protocol Magazine Silver Career Bureaucrat of the Year Award.
Yıldırım specializes in health policy, and his work focuses on the policy, management, and economics of health, healthcare services, and healthcare systems. Yıldırım has focused his recent research on Islamic and Health Studies in general, and Prophetic Medicine in particular. In this sense, he established the Islamic and Health Research and Prophetic Medicine Center online (www.tibbinebemerkezi.com) and initially published the “Islamic and Health Research Series/Prophetic Medicine Collection” (www.tnmkitap.com), consisting of seven books.
